SC Kansas | Our pivot will be corn this next spring, followed by soybeans the next year. We've had high pigweed pressure, even with a kitchen sink herbicide program this year. I want my next attempt at controlling weeds to include a cover crop to try and shade the ground. I can drill a cover crop after the corn comes off next fall in mid September. If that's the case I'd want to do a wheat cover as to not contaminate our drill with rye or trit. The other option would be to fly something on while the corn is still standing. That would give me a little jump on the growth? Any recommendations on this situation? Wheat, rye, or trit? Blend with anything? Grazing would be an option over the winter as well, but my main goal is weed suppression, so would that limit the amount of ground cover in the spring? Thanks | |
