I despise when people around here do that. Yes it will work, but. If 1 grain of sand gets in there and makes its way to a distribution block, it will shut the whole system down. Keep it very clean and it will be OK. Around here, nothing is clean.

We put FD89-1002-04-04 couplers on the greasers, and 1001s on our grease gun handles. It's the same family of couplers as on a skid steer or a single point on a newer combine but 1/4". Easy to wipe off and keep clean, and I don't have to hold it.
