Gleaner s97: why is this spring needed on unload?

The rubber bushing is to help keep the belt tight when going from power when the clutch is engaged to clutch disengaged and the auger is free-wheeling to a stop. You don't want the belt slapping around.

Interesting I noticed between two pictures I posted was where the jam nut is set between our two different S98's we are in the shop beginning winter overhaul. They came from two different dealerships and are 4 years difference in age. One is against the spring and the other is against the metal opposite the bolt head.

Question for Chris Mayers is one way better than the other? I would think against the spring would be better to allow movement for the bolt head. Otherwise the nut opposite the bolt head would lock it in place so the flexing would be through the bolt itself.
