I've always thought the biggest advantage to narrow row beans is they canopy closing faster for better weed control. I remember when I sold seeds that there was one fellow who consistently produced the highest yields and he planted 38 inch rows as opposed to most who planted 30 inch rows. Row spacing is only one aspect to great yields.
I see no difference in weed control and I have not adjusted my herbicide program since leaving 15" beans for 30".
The best thing I can do for bean weed control is bale straw. Delays me a few days to a week on spraying beans and they get bigger and canopy soon after my post pass. I run 3pts of warrant in my post (which they will tell you to do in drilled beans even) and have clean fields to combine |
