I've always thought the biggest advantage to narrow row beans is they canopy closing faster for better weed control. I remember when I sold seeds that there was one fellow who consistently produced the highest yields and he planted 38 inch rows as opposed to most who planted 30 inch rows. Row spacing is only one aspect to great yields.
