CNY | I grew up on my family farm, then worked on and managed several different farms for 15 years. I have farmed on my own now for 5 years, with a day job.
Regardless of what crop you are growing, you will have your fixed costs. Rent, machinery, insurance.
Then for each crop you need to plug in seed, fertilizer and chemical cost. Also put in custom hire for each crop if you need to (like if you grew cotton and had to hire it picked).
Talk to real farmers in your area to get an actual idea what they are getting for yields. Call several places and get real prices for fertilizer/seed/chemical. Call the actual places you would sell your grain/crops and see what they are actually paying.
Don’t be upset if you don’t make much money or make a mistake your first couple years. If you’re going to be successful you have to be continually learning and improving. Don’t worry what other people think. Good luck. | |
