Pittsburg, Kansas | Not disagreeing with you, but also I am not operning my billfold every month for a premium cost of a hundred or two hundred dollars. I have paid zero premiums for about six years now. I instead put the premium I would have paid into a savings account. I have quite a lot of money now in that saving account over any cost I had to pay using the PPO.
It is a mixed bag. If a person has terrible Advantage plan network coverage (like a lot of really rual in the sticks areas might be), it definitely would not be a good choice. Or if a person has lots of high dollar first line (not generic) prescriptions. Or has multiple hospital stays annually. A lot of good reasons to not do an Advantage plan.
But for some people it works reasonably well. Especailly if you have above average health compared to the rest of Medicare population.
The attempt by the government is to make them actuarily equivelent or slight advantage to the government in overall costs to the government. | |
