Wisconsin | I think the farmer fix is to soak the base of the jamb and door in used motor oil annually. If that's not going to fly, next best would be thompsons water seal type product, but they usually come pre primed, except the end, which is the problem, so soaking in thompsons isn't that outrageous. Fully painting the back side of the jamb might help. Any trim that you can paint all six sides will hold up much better than something that's exposed to interior humidity on the raw backside and painted on the outside, that paint doesn't stand a chance. | |
