Wisconsin | What exactly are you looking at? mortar deteriorating in several places? or the whole wall cracked or crumbling? A brick foundation that's basically solid doesn't sound like it needs replacing, so do you want to pay $50-60, maybe even $65k more to have a full poured concrete foundation? Some people would, but not me in most cases.
I've never done foundation work that way, but seen it many times. Like moving a house, sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it makes you wonder what they were thinking. If you're not doing the work yourself these days, it's real hard to make sense of throwing good money after bad. Doesn't sound like you're interested in tackling the foundation replacement yourself, are you considering the tuckpointing yourself? even if not, it's easier to find a reasonable handyman who can handle tuckpointing than one that can replace a foundation. | |
