Pittsburg, Kansas | You said that right about the door jams being cheap and will not last. I can count three around my place that the bottom foot has rotted out and needs something done. Rest of the door is ok.
I also would like to know how to properly fix this type situation.
What I did, which I am pretty sure is NOT the right fix, is to dig the rot out back to the stud and fill the area with silicone. Not a proper fix but I wanted to keep water from getting back into the structure of the house and start rotting that out. The framing all looked perfect with no rot starting.
