Some of these people can absolutely do better but many can’t.
My mother passed away last January, she was very poor. Granted much of her own life choices to put needs of others before her own put her in that position but it opened my eyes on sometimes wal-mart checker is the best anyone is going to do. She did that for 10 years and that was the longest she held down a single job.
When you’re in your late 50’s, not proficient to run a computer well, not in great shape, no real marketable skill set other than show up on time what occupation would someone like that be able to get? Probably not going to go to school to be an attorney at that point and pipeline welder probably isn't a great option either.
Should you be able to live like a king working at dollar general part time? No, but if you’re the FT manager you should be able to have a somewhat comfortable life and they aren’t.
Anyone who shows up every day and works has my respect. If snap help them a little, I'm all for it. |
