You may have purchased a Chamois look-alike cloth, like these ShamWow towels, instead of a real leather chamois. The Shamm-Wow towels work well if you wet them first.
Shamwow cloths are sometimes sold by Flim-Flam guys at fairs and product shows, but Amazon and Walmart have them too.
