Same with crop insurance some need it some abuse it some don’t need it. Same exact thing.

Do lenders still require the borrower to carry crop insurance ? Pretty sure when I purchased my first farm back in the day I was required to have it. Maybe it just depends on the lender and borrower's financial circumstances.

Why wouldn’t they recommend you having crop insurance. That’s just bad business there. You take out any kind of loan on a car or piece of equipment they sure as heck want you to have insurance on it. Same goes for the bank giving you money to operate.

Wasn't suggesting it was a bad idea. I'm with you, they should require insurance but to say some need it and some dont is silly if you have money borrowed a your lender requires it. You're forced to hold a policy, long story short. That is unless you pay cash for all your land . Wasn't trying to argue with you, simply pointing out majority of producers are probably holding some form of debt which then obligates a crop insurance policy .

Neither of my lenders require me to carry crop insurance.
