Subject: RE: Milk house water heater

In my new milking facility I plumbed 3 residential 75 gallon water heaters together. They came with controls that limited them to 160 degrees. I found the 180 degrees controls online and installed them.

These residential heaters are 75k btu and cost about $1000 each plus $200 for the hotter controls. $3600 for 225 gallon of hot water.

The commercial heaters are 200k btu and cost $5000. The recovery is 3 times as fast, but one cannot keep up to the wash system. So I would have needed a second one. $10,000 for 150 gallon of hot water.

I visited a lot of dairies that had a couple regular water heaters to pre-heat the water that fed a commercial tankless set at 180 degrees. I don't think there is a tankless that could do it alone.
