 Eastern NE KS
 | I was wondering the same.
My story is from the 60's and my Dad lived it. The end result was annual booster of blackleg to all our cows and bulls. This practice continues to today.

I explained the whole story to my current vet. He doesn't agree with the practice then shrugs says at least it's cheap and not hurting anything.

One detail that is a currently unknown, OP, Iamwill, says it's bloat and I don't know/remember if that was the obvious symptom back in Dad's time. Weather change and sporatic deaths are common to both stories.

Back in the '60's Dad lost 20 over 1-2 months before a new vet came around saying he saw the similar thing in Wyoming and a local old timer vet had this rancher's cows vaccinated for Blackleg and stopped it. Dad did the same and stopped his problem too. Thus our fairly controversial practice was started.
