So could you unroll the bales with a pick up? Or do they fall in a pile in 25 feet?

we run half the knives usually. That's a pretty good balance between totally falling apart, and being able to unroll over a reasonable distance. If we know its grinding hay we run all blades. If we know we will unroll it, we drop the knives out. We also sometimes leave the outer most couple of knives off both ends, and use half the knives in the center. That keeps the end from sometimes breaking off like a doughnut if they are rough handled or fall off a trailer. Not that such things happen in your part of Missouri.......
