Northeast Kansas | I've got a bunch of carry over prairie hay from the last couple years that the cows didn't like eating through the processor as well as some bmr sudan that they seem to leave the stems on more than I would like. I no longer have my processor but I have a Kelly Ryan wagon and a John Deere Chuck wagon that I can feed ground hay with. I already have the bottomless bunks and fenceline bunks to feed at when its wet. My question is if I grind one brome, one sudan, one prairie, one alfalfa will it mix well enough in the pile that everything can get some alfalfa when its fed or do I need to try to unroll the alfalfa on its own? Also if grind 60 bales at a time will the hay keep 2-3 weeks on a pile on the ground? The last time we ground hay I had my alfalfa in small squares but shed space and ambition limitations vetoed that this year. This would be for fall cows with September calves at their side and spring bred cows that will calve in march. Thanks for any advice. | |
