The 175-185 Bobcats are known for reliability. Gehls and Case skidders of that era were good as well.

I went from a 185 Bobcat that never failed me to a SSV65 Kubota and it's done well. I don't always like the snappiness of the hydraulics, mostly when handling packs of small squares so that probably doesn't apply to you. The DPF hasn't been a problem so far, no DEF on these little guys.

I really like the door. It fits my use, frequently going through gates, moving pallets of feed etc. The door of the Bobcat was only on the skid loader on the stormiest winter days. Otherwise it was off and out of the way.

The fuel tank in the rear door unclutters the engine compartment in my opinion.

The door on the Kubota is only closed on the hottest or coldest days of the year. I can also have it off the ground a bit as needed and as long as I can drag my old carcass in and out over the boom; very handy for some jobs.

I agree with the appeal of the side door brands, but the sticker shock was too much to overcome when I was looking.

I think a lot has to do with price point, the door and a few other factors. The market share of Kubota skid loaders in my part of the world is huge for a relative new-comer based only on what I see when out and about.
