| Maybe because I sold my calves 2 months ago, so it will be 8 to 10 months before the market movement matters to my pocketbook again. Yes I understand we don't need Trump blabbing on in a way that is negative to ag markets here in North America. The big packers through one of their mouth pieces Beef Magazine, just reassured me this morning the fundamentals have not changed. Even with higher prices in the store, beef consumption is only down 0.5 oz (less than one burger). There are still no cattle looking for a country to be dumped on, just to move the inventory. (Not being in person please don't miss my skepticisms in anything the packers try feeding us producers. )
But I do have a concept of the risk feeders like Garvo face. In the good old days at my college with a motto of "Learn by Doing" I got assigned a report on cattle feeding profits over time. Yes my brain is done, I cannot remember when we started but am guessing the 1930's to 1977 or 78 as I graduated in 78. There were several real down times as well as the good. I looked at the whole as typical busy work. Only years latter after meeting another semi local cattleman, he asked your name is familiar, did you attend Cal Poly? Well anyway the department head of Ag Business would drag my report out to show ups and downs in cattle markets. So hopefully Garvo can find the right moment to get some "insurance" to help him sleep.
To others so down on Trump, you are talking of abandoning the Republicans over this, hopefully you are joking. Take a closer look at all the Democrats have done for the cattle business. But I guess many of their enviro miss conceptions they implement are much more a problem to the west than the rest of the country. We really need wolfs as much as a feeder needs BRD running through his pens. | |
