Data probably does no good if you are selling at the sale barn. You have to market your cattle to the buyers using your data.

We try to weed out the heavy cow that is weaning the light calf. We like our cows to be in the 1200-1300# range. We have a few smaller and a few bigger. We weigh our cows when they go to grass and the calves when they are weaned. Our goal is to raise a consistent group where we can have pot loads of steers that average out the same. Eliminate the cows that fall below that range. Especially those bigger framed cows. Our heifers are marketed as replacements. Typically sell them at or above steer price.

Because we sell our heifers as replacements we typically select bulls that have good maternal traits with good carcass traits. 9 mile Franchise and Bieber Energize are a couple of Red Angus bulls we have used.
