Well doing alot of thinking. It's getting hard for me to justify all that money walking around on 4 legs...getting older and not the best of health.
If I sell...I will rent out the pastures. The fence is not the best...but I would work on it and the cattle were used to the pastures and usually didn't go exploring. All were beef breeds...no part deer or antelope..not trying to go thru or over the fence.
Priced wire and post the other day...ouch !!!
Just materials for 4 wire fence..$6000 a mile. Told labor would be
Another $5000 or more....that just shot the hell of making anything on the pasture...let alone weed spraying and taxes.
So been seeing alot of ads on the wireless fence system..a cow wears a collar...you set a border via gps...they have had simular system with pets for a while...
So..what have you been hearing as cost...some are cellular some not...some of our pastures don't have cell phone signals...then how does it keep them in....say your Ole jack rabbit cow has a collar on...she goes past the imaginary line...it shocks her..so she starts running...odds are she will go forward....it shocks her again...by now she is at a full gallop and starts to bellow...she gets further away and zap again..things keep getting worse...by now the rest of the herd noticed the commotion...they get all upset and they start to get squiirrely...and you have cattle running in all directions making noise...all of a sudden a bunch if them start to get shocked
..now you have a free for all...
You get a text...by the time you get there cattle scattered for miles...some sick from running and being shocked...
So...is that how the system works ?
Lastly...any consideration to how this should be handled by landlord/renter ?...in my instance...I used to tend fence...today the young bunch don't want to take time to check or fix fence...and want to blame it on someone else...
You know we have to have our priorities stright...playing ball at night..go hunting...go 4x4 in the mud holes...go to ball games in big city...have to go out Saturday night and spend all day Sunday recovering.
Thanks
[/QUOTEif your fence was put in by the previous generation then you need to put one in for the next generation
