Confinement cow calf at these prices would work just fine. It’s more work, more management, more expensive and less appealing but it would work just fine. Give a guarantee of this price/cost structure for the next 15 years and every other Midwest row cropper would throw a barn up.
Depends on your definition of "work". Confinement cow/calf is talked about here quite a bit. But it has not been profitable.
Now maybe "guaranteeing current price AND cost structure for 15 years" would make it profitable, but what is the likelihood of that???
Cows calving naturally on grass and raising their calf is the lowest cost and most natural system.
