Tablerock Ranch eastern Wa | All we hear and talk about is Cow numbers, have they gone down? yes are they the lowest in bla bla years, yes, could it turn in to a problem someday? yes, is that problem today? NO!!!!
but Dave how can you say No when Cow numbers are down, and the price of Beef has risen in recent years. Look at the numbers of US beef production year over year, and for a moment disregard where the calf that fed that chain hit the ground.... Canada / Mexico part of US beef annual production numbers on anything fed here that hits our kill plants. Numbers tell us that beef production is not down year over year in any meaningful way, 27 billion compared to high 28.25 two years ago, and I would make the argument that the only reason it was higher the last two years and has fallen slightly is we had culled hard to sell into high kill cow values. So if we are not undersupplying the market historically in any meaningful way, than it would show beef has finally moved up and caught the current inflated prices we pay on most goods. could it be Beef has always been priced under value in the US and is now closer to where it should be. There has been little demand destruction, and when it comes it won't be at our hands like some on here lament! we don't set prices any more than a row cropper, we are price takers for the most part. If the Government has to get involved like they always think they do, and they think the Cowman is making to much money and the answer is more Cows to flood the market and bring prices down to a food bank giveaway, than at least do for us what they do for other industries they are trying to manipulate... TAX BREAKS if you want more heifers in production make it my decision on whether I want to participate, give me a 5k voucher for every heifer I keep over the next five years and let me bank those vouchers until they are conducive for me to use.
