| I got in near the beginning of the big no-till/airseeder push around here. Was one of only a handful of guys running them. Now they are everywhere you look. Would be a lot harder to get into the custom business now. We still do similar acreage but the percentage of custom vs our own has certainly dropped. As someone else mentioned do a superior job, be timely, and above all, communicate!! Keep on top of maintenance. I tried to find a niche that no one else would do but was in demand. Good luck. Custom work has treated us well over the years.
One other thing, know what it really costs you to own and operate your equipment. Nothing worse than wearing out your machinery and yourself and having nothing at the end to show for it. It’s a business, not a hobby | |
