Subject: RE: Late fall grass seeding

NW Iowa
We do hay it once right before the show. Don’t want alfalfa, the traffic will hurt the stand. I do not want to seed this again after the grass is established. The reason for seeding is a combination of poor fertilizer management in the past making for weak plants and very wet conditions during the show. It was chewed up bad by the traffic. In June it got a good shot of N,P, and K per recommendation from an agronomist. We went with the highest level recommended. Next spring it will get another shot of fertilizer. I can see some deficiency in parts of the new seeding.

The best option was to tear it up and re-seed. This is a pasture mix being seeded this time. And I just don’t know why the drag did a better job than the cultipacker. I would like to know for next time. The ground was all treated the same pre plant.
