East of Broken Bow | Way back when I bought a new to me 4WD pickup, I ruined a tire. Talked to the tire guy who recommended that the 2 on the same axle be as close to identical as possible, but front to rear isn't so critical because 90%+ of the time you are not in 4WD, and when you are, it is usually on slicker surfaces and only for short times, so I got 2 new ones for the back, put the best 2 of the 3 usable ones on the front. Ever since then I've bought new tires for the rear, and moved the rear ones to the front. I don't rotate, maybe I should, but I don't see how to really rotate new and half worn tires. Anyway, I bought that pickup used in 1995, only bought 2 tires at a time for it, and it is still going strong, and have had no issues with the 4wd system. In fact, I can't recall even having a U joint replaced in the front half of the driveline.
Now a full-time 4wd could very well be different. | |
