East of Broken Bow | I have a friend who manages a grocery store, and he said when beef prices are high many people just buy hamburger assuming that is the cheapest beef. Told me at one point they were grinding steak up into hamburger in the store because the prices of the lower cuts of steak were enough cheaper than hamburger it made it economical. I told him I'm glad I didn't work there, as it goes against every fiber of my being, to take a perfectly good steak, and grind it up.
But he was right, hamburger at the time was $3.99/lb, and I bought some boneless steak for $3/49 at the time. Not tenderloin or T-Bones, but it was still good steak. I'm thinking it might have been during the whole Covid mess. | |
