Southeast North Dakota
Grew it for the 1st time in our farms' history this year. Seed cost was around $65 an acre, approx $125 an acre fert., sprayed for flea beetles (can't remember the cost), Liberty pass spray, then dessication. Sold some on contract for 21.32 cts/100 and it made around 2300 lbs an acre. $490 bucks an acre minus expenses I feel we did better than our usual 32 to 35 bushel beans @ $8.50 an acre even with the extra fert expense for the canola. We did 350 acres this year and plan to go up to 500ish in '26. The 20-plus years of corn/beans/corn/beans/corn/beans has grown old and I'm glad we have another option. Have a neighbor that raised wheat this year and I asked how it went, he got a great yield, 15 protein, 60 lb., etc, but by the time he got docked for scab, vom, falling numbers, etc., they offered him $2 a bushel for it. I miss wheat, but those numbers aren't fun.
