Milford, IL | I might be excoriated for admitting this - I put a desktop PC together in 2012, Windows 7 OS and turned auto-updates off on day one. Never updated ever, and I used that PC connected to the internet for over 10 years that way. Online banking and CC management, online retail as a buyer and a seller, everything an average user would do and then some - no M$ updates and it all worked great.
I finally punted when Mozilla quit updating Firefox for Windows 7. It was a good run but the days of Microsoft letting the user manage the OS appear to be over.
