Communication is critical and many of us assume that since we knew what we meant, that everyone else would too. We deal with it on a daily basis with the ones we work with everyday that should know on their own and it still happens. I would likely go with what you said and meant, wasn't likely what they heard and understood. Hard to lay all the blame on them in that instance if that is the case. If there are things like this, it is best to have final communications in some form of writing like text or email if you expect them to be responsible for performance issues. What was discussed when you looked at application maps/bill and there wasn't enough fungicide used? If you think they are good operators and think they are honest, I would discuss it with them and tell them that you had a loss because of the mistake, but leave it at that. How they handle would be on them.
