Subject: Cotton and the South voted for Trump.. how’s that working out?

cornstalk - 10/20/2025 07:09

Yes we have election, Trump won the last one big.

”big” is a 2 pt margin.. where he’s currently upside down in most polls.

This thread exists because Trumps policies of “America First” then importing Beef to squash the economic signal needed to EXPAND “America First” Beef.. begs the question.. so which is it?

It’s short sighted to think we can tariff tax.. our way to prosperity on an island of higher costs.

Take the South.. their main products are Cotton.. and Soybeans.. grown to Export to China.. which that market is under assault.. those farms risk not surviving.. right now.

So what should happen?  The US has no cotton mill capacity left.. and consumer choices are moving to synthetics.  We have expanded Soybean crush.. partly to convert to added bio diesel.. but not quick enough to offset the loss of China (although Beans are higher this morning on trade talks.)

There has to be more than tariff taxes.. to reinvent the Country.. and transitioning from high costs.. to even higher costs.. is a doomed policy objective.. imho.

In short.. the current administrations basic premise is flawed.. and will not work.

Ive seen many businesses close since January.. Ive heard of one (1) trying to get started.. Tiny house manufacturer.. 400 sq ft houses for sale for $160 k.. Yal.. that sounds like a winner.  Not.
