Here are some important notes that we’ve found, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
1) rehydrate and immediately haul out. Don’t rehydrate and then let them sit there for another 6 months, you’ll be very disappointed in the condition of the bottom beans and along the walls
2) absolutely need 1 CFM/bu to do this properly, and just as important as the fan is the roof vents to properly ventilate that much air.
3) we have both AGI suretrack on some bins and Farm Shop MFG on other smaller bins. AGI is WAY nicer and WAY more expensive. All the farm shop and AGI systems do is monitor the outside air and inside conditions and run the fans for you, however, the AGI also has a lot of other valuable options for drying corn in the bin also. (Plenum monitoring, app on phone, phone control, heater control, etc.)
4) Smaller is better. Big bins are not ideal for rehydrating. 15’-20’ is as deep as I’d like the grain to be if it were me, and if you’re rehydrating over 20,000 bushel, I’d be sure to leave plenty of headspace for those beans to expand, otherwise you’ll have beans coming out of the eaves. We’ve done 10k bushel bins just fine without leaving much headspace, but I still leave the top 6” empty to be sure.
We have 4 AGI suretrack systems and 5 farm shop end zone systems. My rule of thumb - if the bin is 20k bushel or more, go AGI.
Give Tony a call at farm shop mfg, he’s very knowledgeable and will point you in the right direction. He also knows exactly how to do this process.
