Texas | With short repair times , its very difficult to make your “ time “ .
JB Hunt set their own times , always way less than SRT times by the dealer .
Put the stress on the mechanics to make time , bad hours . Very often working in the elements . Not so much rain and cold in Tx , but a whole bunch of hot days . I shot the concrete one day with a heat gun -140 degrees .
Imagine having to account for every minute of the day , under those conditions ?
I did not ever cheat , i developed a system that i taught everyone at the shop . There will be jobs .That you can do faster than time allowed . Log on that on computer , do that job fast . Move on to next one
It was alot of trouble to keep up with what you were running time on and what you were fixing .
All the while making sure you did not make a mistake that could get someone killed on the road .
24 years at JB Hunt , I actually went back a few months at crete .After i retired , same crap but worse . I hung it up at trucking companies for good then.
Big companies do their very best to make a mechanic miserable . Its as they want every single drop of blood you have .The times at crete were so short , alot of service work was not done at all .I never did that but it for sure happened .
Best job i ever had was a long time friend , had about 20 379/89 and a couple of W-900 . He did not care how long it took , in fact he never came to the shop much .He asked if i would come help get stuff back going .
The fellow before me kind of let things go .
He trusted me , grew up with fellow . I could buy about anything i needed to fix stuff . I would buy stuff for a few hundred , but a trans was 5 k rebuilt .I would always call , and every single time it was “ go get one “.
Mechanics are treated like pretty much bottom of the barrel everywhere .
After about 4 transmissions one month , my friend finally said “ why are we tearing up so many “? I said the drivers wont push in the clutch to put PTO in .
All he ever said was huh , dang it | |
