| I couldn’t agree more Paul. The chisel plow is a great tool. If done with proper soil moisture it leaves the soil with great tilth and can probably protect the ground from blowing better that soybean stubble.
Since we’ve started to count more on the chisel plow and less on other tools- our yields have gone up, our tilth has improved and our soil doesn’t blow.
I don’t understand this trend of disc ripping or vertical tilling everything to pieces. When you are finally ready for a seed bed then it might be beneficial to work your soil into a finer crumble, but before that the erosion and soil loss outweigh the benefits IMHO. | |
