Southeast Colorado
Herding cats would be easier than getting farmers to work alongside each other to lower our inventory. Especially when you factor in our differing costs of production. I know everyone says that you need to factor in your opportunity cost of lost rent, when farming on paid for ground. But how many of us want to jump in and out of the farmer/landlord game business? Lots of farmers with paid for land will just keep putting a crop in every year..........and when prices stink, they're probably still generating a profit. And then when prices come back, they'll just be making more profit. Like you say, it could still be poor business by some professional standard..........but it's still business as farming has always worked. You could probably take all of your money and time and make more in some other opportunity..............but then you'd probably be doing something you don't like.
