R Calf’s comments are just flat wrong. Why would you grow your cow herd with a cow that has more value going to a feedlot. When you are near retirement age you just cash in. Truth is on imports we need trim meat to make hamburger. That is the exact reason country of origin labeling never happened. Another factor is ranch land has had competing buyers from outside the ag sector. The land has new uses besides grass. The cowherd will never grow until the cost of replacement heifers comes down


Why raise crops when you can raise solar panels for more? When you are retirement age, just cash in.
