All of the above are valid concerns. We changed to 22” from 36” in 2009. What I have found is if you have good black dirt there is little to no advantage. Good ground yields good. What has really stood out for us is the marginal ground, we have seen a very good yield increase there. This is talking corn. In beans I really like 22”, you get the yield bump of narrow yet don’t struggle with the drilled problems of mold and disease because of better air movement.
