See, I still can't wrap my mind around it, and I'm not sure what you're saying answers the question he's asking. The only time it would pay, at least to me, to feed an open cow is if she is thin and will put on condition fast, and she's not doing that on old hay you see piled up. If I have extra feed, it gets put towards keeping a few extra heifers and rolling the dice that way.
