Damn metric. That's how the Gimli Glider happened. They fueled up a Boeing 767 in eastern Canada with so many pounds of fuel and thought it was kilos. Took off headed for Vancouver. She quit over Manitoba and the hero pilot located a WWII airstrip about 40 miles from Winnipeg and glided it in. They were having drag races there that weekend but nobody got hurt. Collapsed the nose gear.
Thanks to rancher/auction market owner Ralph Vold we still sell cattle by the pound in Canada.
