Pittsburg, Kansas | Saw him in at Aldi's today getting some groceries. He retired about five years ago and I had to find a new doctor.
The next to the last time I saw him I had started the low carb ketogenic diet and was down around 80 pounds when I went in for my annual physical. He inquired what I had done to lose the weight. Told him I had went on a low carb ketogenic diet and had to quit my insulin. Think I might have still been taking the blood pressure meds then but I might have quit them by then also. Don't remember. He looked kind of amazed and just said whatever I was doing to keep doing it.
Funny thing was since the last time I had seen him HE had gained a bunch of weight. He was probably 50-80 pounds over weight. I think I saw him one more time before he retired and I had to find a new doctor. I had wondered about him several different times. Wondered what became of him. Great guy. Desert Storm veteran doctor. I never questioned him doing the best he could for me as a patient.
We chatted for a few minutes and I commented he looked fit and trim. I almost did not recognize him. He said he had lost a lot of weight. I mentioned it changed our lives when we went low carb ketogenic. He said "I did too". He was prediabetic and reversed that and got off blood pressure medicine. I have no idea if my experienced had any influence on him trying a low carb diet, but that is what he did to improve his health. We chatted a little more about it and he mentioned if only he had known while he was practicing medicine he could maybe have helped some of his patients more.
Was a short but very interesting conversation. I was very happy to know he had lost weight and improved his health because the last time I saw him I was really concerned he was not doing well.
Complete happenstance but I was sure glad we crossed paths again. |
