Fairfield County, Ohio, USA | We used our InCommand w/ NTRIP to ODOT today, planting wheat. I had an initial problem -- it disconnected at some point and the screen said "Invalid Credentials" -- the same message that plagued me earlier this year. I went into NTRIP config and told it to reconnect, and it did. As far as I know it didn't disconnect (and stay disconnected, at least) for the rest of the day. I checked the IP address that I was using via the br1mini (on DAC, not Simbase or similar), and it was 147.28.187.9. That IP resolves to Equinix Services (a huge datacenter operator) with an estimated location of Dallas TX. One could argue that it is definitely a domestic IP address. However, it's part of a pool of IP addresses that are administered by RIPE, which is the IP addressing authority for EMEA (the US equivalent is ARIN). So, depending on how the IT department is evaluating it, maybe it would be blocked and maybe it wouldn't.
That IP address being active in the US but administered by RIPE definitely lends credibility to this being a problem caused by ODOT's firewall, rather than the AgLeader equipment or a malfunctioning modem. And that it reliably worked on AT&T for me in the past when in hotspot mode also makes sense, because AT&T probably isn't using any RIPE IP addresses for their cell environment. I have personal experience in the past with Sprint and then TMo doing so though, so it's not a given that a cell hotspot is always going to use an ARIN public IP. |
