North Central Indiana | If you can do it at a positive roi then go for it. That’s one that I’ve never made pencil personally and I’m skeptical of the data provided by retailers, chem companies and seed companies owned by chem companies in regards to fungicide success and roi. All I know is that if I were making money on traits or “crop protection” products I would work as hard as possible to convince you that you have to use it because it increases bushels/revenue/whatever metric you want to look at without mentioning profit and then slowly increase the price of my product and justify it because of how “essential” it is to producing your crop.
We love data on our farm. And again this year untreated soybeans had the highest roi when compared to a few different treatment checks, conventional corn sprayed with generic chemicals had the highest roi when compared to traited corn across 4 different brands and 9 different trait packages. Generic fungicide, Delano, veltyma and non treated were compared and no fungicide was highest profit with generic being the only close treatment.
I know a post said bushels are the currency so produce as many as possible. It was a retailer who will sell you all the add ons needed for a huge crop… I agree bushels are the currency. But bushels in excess of expenses is the profit. And spending your way to more profit is a tricky deal. Guess that might be why there are so many guys complaining about how bad things are right now and worried about operating lines not being renewed | |
