| People should be keeping back heifers like crazy, this is what happened in past cattle cycles. No indication that is true at this point. A longer cattle cycle than normal? A lot of questions about what has fundamentally changed in the industry. Where exactly are increased cow numbers going to graze? Lawns of houses built on former pasture land? A five million dollar hunting lodge just went up on 600 acres of river bottom land we used to lease. Many young people can't afford to buy in or expand even IF they want to do the work. Bred cow sales look like a nursing home for the most part. This isn't the lowest cow numbers in 10-12 years. When your talking about the lowest numbers in over 70 years, you don't change that over night, probably never. | |
