Navarre, OH | I grew roughly 10 acres of Bloody Butcher two years ago. Yield was low, stalk quality was awful. Had a hard time keeping the coon out of it because it was mature before most other crop in our area. We harvested it and air dried it in a neighbors bin, then we bagged it and sold it to a few distilleries. When I was initially approached by a few people to grow it, everyone wanted to buy it. When it was in the bags and ready to sell, it didn’t move as fast as I thought it would. It was an interesting project, but for the lack of yield and the amount of extra work, I’m not sure it was worth it. I would make sure to have a rock solid buyer lined up. Live and learn! | |
