E.Central MN | My brother said it was amazing how short-sighted some of the rules were that were requested by company negotiators (not the union negotiators). Usually the company was trying to restrict jobs to certain departments so they didn't have to pay other departments more money to do those jobs. Companies like GM have a lot of rules that restrict who can do certain jobs for different reasons: one reason is because jobs done incorrectly it can cause disruptions, for example, you don't want somebody contaminating an air supply line by hooking it up to a hydraulic or water supply line which could shut down the whole assembly line for days. A second reason is that they don't want to get sued for having improperly trained people getting injured or killed. Maybe when AI replaces all the mediocre management there won't be as much need for unions. | |
