Subject: RE: Corn yields

In some parts of the world soil biology stops from now until April. Residue never decays. Heavy black dirt needs to see the sun and have some air in it or you will never plant it timely in spring. Have watched a guy who rents ground 30 miles from his home place get educated on this last few years. His home ground is sandy and dries quickly here it's flat and black. He started out no tilling and after a couple years of disaster the chisel plow was chasing the combine. Pretty sure he has never owned a chisel plow before this year.

Every spring here no till ground is 40-45 degrees and wet and will not warm up. Strip till is 55+ and perfect seed bed. This fall no till corn is 22-24% strip till 18-19%. Light ground here has a cec under 20.
