I can agree that our best yields come from the first drought level. Too much rain is never good. 10” would be like 2012 though.
In central Iowa, for sure especially for ground within the Des Moines lobe. Clarion/Nicolett/Webster soils have tremendous water holding capacity (thats why there is tile drainage and not irriagation in that area). If your tile lines are running at planting, you only need about 10-15 inches of rain to make big corn crops (granted it all doesn't come in 3 weeks time). Best crops I have ever seen are on years that the lawns turn brown several times throughout the summer.
