Ludington/Manistee MI area | mikado - 10/14/2025 06:58 I got an almost new combine last year. There is nothing cheap about running a combine. My previous one was eating me alive in repairs. Mathematically, we should hire our harvesting done. Then comes in the timeliness. A custom guy can’t be everywhere at once. Someday, my wife and I won’t be actively farming . I’ve told my son to strongly consider trying to find a custom guy, then. We hire some things done that we can’t get to. My opinion…rates some guys charge go to machine itself, they are taking nothing for labor. In our situation, at times, it seems we get a hired guy, for free.
No way!
1) If I/we are doing our own combining it’s on my timeline 2) I know the quality of the job done seen some sketchy finished products 3) Here basically every bushel of corn needs to be dried. The capacity of our grain system matches harvest capacity. Doubt a person would find someone to take off a 1/16 of the acres each day.
We run two borderline geriatric machines and it seems to work. |
