Cardboard has similar energy values to corn silage, but almost no protein. Cattle will eat it readily if mixed with a wet feed. They aren't thrilled with it dry, but in relatively small amounts they will eat it dry. Biggest risk with cardboard is staples. The glue generally poses no threat. The plastic is another thing entirely. It can cause real problems if ingested.
