He is likely tired of being bossed around by dark and ready to go home. Try hiring some help and then telling them they need to work 18 hours a day…. Think of yourself as a manager/boss that has to recognize others situations and perspectives.
My hired guys start at 8 am daily after they get their kids on the bus. They go home at dark unless it’s a very unique situation. Everyone is in a better mood at 10-12 hour days then 18. I will sometimes fill trucks and cart after they go home by myself.
